The New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey (NPTNJ) program provides a process for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) to become licensed teachers without having to complete a traditional teacher training program. Candidates complete courses online while working as a full-time teacher. The program is regulated and approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. Program coursework focuses on developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum, and the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be an effective educator.

Admissions Requirements

  1. A copy of a New Jersey instructional Certificate of Eligibility (CE) in a content area for grades K-12 (temporary/limited CE not acceptable). (A list of your certifications can be downloaded from the .)
  2. Minimum GPA of a 3.0 or higher.
  3. A letter from the hiring manager or administrator on letterhead from your school or school district indicating that the school or school district will enroll you in the provisional teacher program and verifies that you are a full-time lead teacher of record.
  4. The 50-hour Introduction to Teaching course verification form. СŷÊÓÆµ offers this course through the Office of Adult and Continuing Education. You can  for the course through СŷÊÓÆµ. 

A letter of completion or NJDOE program verification form can be obtained by the candidate upon completion of the program requirements.
